Pilot Bay Resort was a campsite / RV park located in Kootenay Bay. Kootenay Lake is BC's third largest natural lake and was used as the main transportation link by early prospectors and settlers who laid the foundations for the first mines and towns in the Kootenay area. Pilot Bay was one of several such communities. The town vanished around 1902; today only scattered bricks, cellar foundations and two brick stacks remain. However, the scenic lake is still the chosen route for modern travelers. Walk-on and drive-on commuters cross the lake daily on the longest free ferry ride in North America. The East Shore terminal, at Kootenay Bay, is within walking distance of Pilot Bay Resort.
Local dining options close to Pilot Bay Resort include Boccalino, Boccalino Restaurant Motel & Cabins, Black Salt Cafe, and Kootenay Bay Lodge Ltd.
