The lake is unreal fishing but the service at the Winifred lake lodge is brutal this past trip 2 months ago. And they're MIA on getting my deposit back and I've read others having the same issue. Can't even access there website it's shut down. I assume they went under who knows. But the fishing is unreal but ill never give these guys another cent if they stay open

Positives: Fishing is world class

Negatives: Everything to do with the lodge

Had an amazing time,,would recommend to anyone. Cannot get 'skunked",catch lots of fish each day. Six of us fished for 4 days and caught and released in excess of 500 fish. Carol,Gary,Kein,Mae are exceptional staff.

Positives: Accomodations are suitable, staff is amazing.

Negatives: Little tricky to get too, definitely off the beaten path. You follow a fairly narrow path for several kms thruogh the bush and all of the sudden the bush opens up and you are there!

It was the fishing experience of a lifetime for my group. We caught 100s of monster north pikes, and countless enormous walleye. The dock guys were very helpful and even cleaned our Jacks! The meals were 5 star. The conference center activities and hot tub make the evenings busy.Accomodations very clean and well appointed. Our group stayed in Eagles Nest as we did do some of our own cooking. We were clearly told if we wanted meals their would be the night before booking required. The new managers Gary and Carol Regular have a facility that rivals the best in the world, let alone Northern Alberta.I know you'll have the fishing experience of a life time by wetting your hook here!!!

Negatives: The road into the facility is very interesting. You need to allow for more when weather isn't great.

The lake was beautiful and the fishing excellent. The accomodations, while very nice and clean, were a bit pricey and we found the service lacking, especially if you were staying the the Eagle's nest cabins. No where is it explained that if you did not make arrangements the night before, you could not get breakfast. There was only one family besides us there and when we went to the dining room in the morning we were told that they had only prepped for 4. But we were welcome to have coffee. We waited almost a half hour to get our bill and at that time the cook came out and said that they "had left overs from the other family and we were welcome to that". Ah, sorry but no thanks. At $720 for 2 days you would think they could afford a few extra eggs. The real highlight was the fishing and the friendly service from Isiac. He was a peach.

Additional details

We have 4 rooms attached to the main lodge, each of which accommodates 4 people, with a private bathroom and shower in each unit. Or if you prefer, we have self-contained cabins on site. Two of the cabins have 3 bedrooms, while one has two bedrooms. The cabins have fridge, stove, cooking utensils, gas bar-b-que and everything else you would expect.

Guests are provided with 16' aluminium boats equipped with new 20 horsepower motors; this combination is perfect for Winefred Lake. The lake itself is 36 km long (14 miles) and 23 km (9 miles) wide giving you plenty of room to "hook the big one!"
While initially coming to fish, hunt or bird watch, after a few days, it is not uncommon to find guests reading a good book on the expansive deck or relaxing in our outdoor hot tub.

During the winter season, many guests use our lodge as a base for snowmobiling along the shoreline, across the lake or on the regional trail network.

Winefred Lake Lodge is accessible by either road or air. If you plan to drive to the lodge we do recommend that you have a reliable 4-wheel drive vehicle. Should you need to, rentals are available from all the major rent-a-car companies.
