Wow, our experience was completely different from the people to review before us! The owners we dealt with, Susan and Shaune were very kind and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable! They seem to be getting their feet under them again after taking on a pretty run down lodge!
The beds are clean and comfortable, loved having our own fireplace to cuddle in front of and frankly the cabin rules are clearly posted, we were not charged any extra fees after our stay. We really enjoyed it!

Positives: The views, the setting, the wildlife, the staff, awesome cinnamon buns

Negatives: previous reviews almost steered us away from this place, I'm really glad they didn't!

Never going back!!

We stayed there a couple days over xmas holidays. We were late by less than a half hour to check out because it was about -34, and colder with the windchill so my truck wouldn't start. Was promptly charged $40 for that, and another $40 cleaning charge because we left a few recyclables (empty water bottles because the tap water is not consumable due to boil water advisory - they don't tell you that until you check in) and one dish on the counter. We placed our garbage in the large garbage can in the porch, and apparently that is not acceptable either. $40 is the minimum cleaning charge, they said they could charge more for that.

When I called them to inquire about these charges, they said 'they didn't appreciate to have to clean up our mess'. They offered no leniency on the charges and stood by them firmly. The cabin adjacent to us was rented by our friends. They were charged $40 because they did not sweep the floor.

Most times when we would walk down to the store, it would be closed for no reason specified, several times a day. We spent a ton of money in the restaurant over two days and bought supplies also. Do yourself a favour and book elsewhere.

Negatives: Extra fees charged to you
Terrible customer service
Ridiculous prices for what looks to be simply deep fried Costco food

We booked this trip with family for the weekend, with all of us working full time and living in separate cities, we were looking forward to a fun stay. We made it fun, but the lodge owners did their best to make the stay uncomfortable and awkward.

First: Cabin's are quaint, fridge/stove/sink combo was small, and wasn;t cold when we arrived. No TV/Radio for entertaining kids when it rains/storms or need to relax before bed. No table/chairs in the nice covered deck areas.

Location: Gorgeous lake and area.

Staff: This was the biggest let down, we paid a good price to stay in the cabin. When we showed up, they took the money and gave us a key telling us it's over that way? No one showed us our cabin, we had to get to it ourselves, only finding a sign that says "do not drink the water" which wasn't told to us at any point. Staff didn;t care about much, opened up late everyday by about 15 minutes, but store/lodge is locked up tight by 7pm everyday and they were gone with a boat and beer by 7pm (most customers like a treat/snack or need stuff in the evenings after a long day). Food/treat prices were very very high. A Canoe rental was 15$ an hour....AN HOUR?? So for a day canoe trip I would of paid over $150 bucks? Restaurant closed, no customer service at all

Positives: Lake views

Negatives: Staff, Staff, Staff...they seem like they couldn't care less about making a customer happy, couldn't care about any return customers or making people enjoy the experience,

GO stay at the YURTS or Blue Lake/Wellman Lake

So disappointed with the new ownership and their lack of customer service. My family has spent so many years at Child's Lake,a beautiful and wonderful summertime place where we return with our now grown children. These new business owners are to bitter about their own situation to care at all about our vacation or anyone else's. They are only wanting to collect cash at your expense.

Positives: Love the Lake and will maybe try renting the yurts next summer as we will not return to these cabins unless there is new ownership or a note of apology.

Negatives: Changed the rules a month before but didn't contact us to let us know that pets were no longer allowed. Rented us a cabin knowing the hide-a-bed was broken and even when we called it out the next morning they didn't care or offer any help. They even had empty cabins that they could have offered. Never even checked to see if we needed anything. We had to ask for more toilet paper. We had someone leave early and they wouldn't even refund the additional charge we had already paid.

The new owners are bitter and should not be in the hospitality business. We have been going to Child's Lake for over 15 years, the last 10 years we have stayed in the cabins. The last few years we have seen the old owners did not maintain the cabins and the new ones don't seem to care. They charged us $40.00 for a pillow that we did not take. I guess that's how the new owners are going to make money. This will be the last year we will support the Lodge - good luck without customers!

It was horrible. We travelled all day to eat at the lodge after hearing that it was a great place to stop for food. We went by other places that would have been better. When we arrived, there was a note on the door saying the restaurant was closed. Inside, the staff said they grill wasn't working and so they had no food. They have a three piece grill - it can't all be broken unless you forgot to order propane! They refused to provide any non-grilled food. Instead they suggested we purchase a bag of chips for supper.

Positives: There were no positives. The flower planters we not planted and weeds are growing everywhere.

Negatives: There was NO food. When we wanted to buy a dozen wieners to at least make ourselves hot dogs at a fire pit... they didn't have any nor did they have any buns/bread. The entire offering of food was two tins of salmon. But, they didn't have a can opener.

The staff lacked professionalism, however what they lacked in professionalism they made up for in arrogance and self-importance. We had the worst customer service I have EVER experienced, and to top it all off the food was horrible.

All in all I was extremely disappointed, the website was, as far as I am concerned, false advertising. Don't believe anything you read... except maybe for the fact the lodge has beautiful water front views from each cabin, which was totally ruined by the service we received anyway. Highly disappointing experience

Positives: Amazing view

Negatives: The food was awful, staff was rude, weren't able to contact the lodge by email and no one ever answered the phone

We had the worst stay here ever. The kitchen couldn't "guarantee" any fresh produce so half the menu they offered we were not able to order from. The store had next to no stock and the staff didn't really seem to care. I tried to knock on the door when I seen staff inside but they refused to open the doors until exactly 9am. What if it was an emergency? Also, the kitchen opens at 9 am. This is a hunting and fishing lodge and if you want to eat before you go out at dawn bring your own food because you wont get service here... it is not an option. Most restaurants are done serving breakfast by 10 and these guys don't even open the doors until then. Seems lazy, and unaccommodating to guests. I almost felt like was a pain rather than a guest. I will not repeat WILL NOT be back here.
