Arrived on father’s day weekend 2024. Worst experience I ever had camping. Firstly we were put on a total crappy site. I connected my camper hose to the water connection and the connection was not in working order so the arrogant and rude owner knocks on my door at 7:45 am and starts swearing at me that my water hose connection was leaking yet it was his water connection that he replaced. I reconnected my hoses to the the water connection and there was again a small leak from one of my hoses at the connection and the owner again aggressively comes over and starts swearing at the small water leak on his shitty campground site. I indicated I had tried my best to put my own plumbing tape around to minimize any leaks but instead of helping fix the problem in a kind professional owner style he kicked my two sons and I out of the campground without justification over a leaking water tap at his site that he could have provided support to fix and gave us 30 min to leave after we prepaid for our site.

Positives: None

Negatives: Unfriendly, rude owner that has some definite issues and will never stay at that campground again. He loves his power trip over the people paying money to stay at a terrible campsite. Dont buy a seasonal or stay for a weekend as the owner’s military attitude toward camping will ruin your precious time with your kids like it ruined mine. The owner is s totally unreasonable person to deal with as he acts like Jeckle and Hide … happy to take your money but unhappy to help you as his customer. Not family friendly at all

Horrible service and horrible fishing. Do not stay here if you want to be treated with dignity. So many beautiful parks in the area provincially owned so much better. Try Pyotts a few miles down much better service. No need to settle. Unless you have a seasonal look else where. Nothing to do there!

Unless you have an RV with a washroom I would definitely recommend you find another campground as amazingly they lock the one and only restroom from 9pm-8am!! Unbelievable!! We were tenting and between those hours left to your own for bathroom facilities, not even sure if that is legal! Not even an outhouse available, I still can't get over it, my sister-in-law complained and they would absolutely not budge on their policy! We were given a camp site that was on the edge of a parking lot basically, overlooking the lake, no trees or shelter of any kind, the second day the wind was so strong we had to collapse our tent to keep it from being torn apart by the gusts. Also had to pay for 3 nights even though we were only there for 2 which I could live with, but once you pay a deposit forget about getting it back, they have an absolute NO REFUND POLICY, no matter the reason. Good luck if you plan to stay here, also have to pay for the showers so make sure you bring your loonies!

Positives: The lake was great!

Negatives: See my comments, go elsewhere!!

I have never stayed at a campground that is worse -so bad we stayed only one night of the three we paid for. Cost $35 /night - ended up Costing us $135 for a one night stay. Weather was fine -the treatment by the camp Gestapo was terrible.

- Wonder why there are no pictures of the sites? They have bulldozed all the trees. All sites are so close together that looking out our 5th wheel slide out window, my son looked at their BBQ and said it looks like their pork chops are almost done - their picnic table was about 9ft from our window.
- If we took the screen out from our dinette window, you could make S'mores on their fire ring - without
any exageration it was 5.5 ft from our unit.
- I haven't smoked in years - except at Ricker's. I guess our neighbour wasn't allowed to smoke inside - so he stood by his unit. Cigarette smoke came into our unit along with smoke from the fire - we had to keep our windows shut.
- The neighbours sat in lawn chairs, drank beer and stared into our unit - had to close the blinds all day for any privacy.
- This wasn't just our site, any sites with electricity are the same proximity.
-When we first arrived we went to the far end of the campground. After our long road trip, Our dog scooted out of the truck and headed down to the water - thick green pea soup for all of August. Pure muck shoreline (incidentally covered with old broken concrete and tires, all covered in muck. (Beautiful , huh?) There was no unit closer than 300 ft. Away. Got our dog back quickly and wanted to wash him off. Saw a tap the had a large sign that said "UNTREATED WATER". I took a dog bowl we had in the truck to get some water. Unbelievablly the Camp Warden drove up in a Gator and told us we "couldn't use that water tap-because it's for people. The water in the lake is for animals." I said all we wanted was couple of bowls of untreated water from the tap and he told us we couldn't use it. $35/night and we can't use any of the untreated water that people get piped to their campsite, supposedly for drinking.

The boat ramp close to our end of the campground was heavily rutted wet sand. Had to put our 3/4 ton p/up with aggressive treads into low 4 wheel to get out after launching -was very close to needing a tow. Bet I could have hired the camp operator for $30+ to get a tow.

Wish I had read the reviews before wasting a day of our vacation. No wonder they have a gate (just like the WWII swing gates you see in the movies )you can't come in to take a look before paying - no one except masochists would ever choose to stay there.

You know, I'm not some wing nut. Never written any critique before. But this was the memory of a lifetime. Hopefully this will save a few people from enduring the same disappointment. There are some great campsites on Lake of the Prairies, just not Ricker's.

Positives: I hear the fishing on this lake really is good. I am passionate about fishiing (have 22 Master Angler Trophy fish in Manitoba ). Truly had to be a terrible experience to fish there for only 2hr.s and leave in disgust.

Well this used to be run by great staff! Not the case any more. An old man driving around in a golf cart no sense of business once so ever. A younger rude smart mouth trying to chase potential clients away. Unreal.

Positives: Not one positive to mention here.

Negatives: The older gentlemen and the younger fella possibly a son should not be in business. Have no clue how to talk to the people who keep there lively hood in tact. Do not go to this campground. But directly to the west is a great place with staff who are welcoming and actually care that you are wanting to spend money and join there beautiful facility. Very clean place. No charge for taking a shower!!! Very welcoming. The other options are Potts point just a few miles to the south with great hosts as well. Do not make your experience regrettable. Go somewhere else.

I have staying there for quite some time now, and witnessed the owner yelling at people in-front of families with children. your camping experience is suppose to be fun, relaxing, and memorable, but my time here has been the total opposite.

- The reason i have been staying at rickers was for the renown fishing, but i have since realized that there are other great places to stay at the lake.

- recently i have been staying at Lost Meadows Resort(Located right across the lake of rickers), and i have been blessed with a fantastic camping experience!!!
note: their bathrooms at Lost Meadows are absolutely fantastic, I can honestly say that they're 100% better than my own. and unlike rickers i have access to them all hours of the day

Positives: The fishing is really great in their lake. Ever since i have been fishing there, i have never had a bad day of fishing.

Negatives: A lot of negatives
- Horrible Bathroom policy(locked at 9)
- Money hungry owners(payed for more night, then we actually stayed for)
- Some sites were strictly gravel, horrible for my children
- Their boat launch was built publicly funded , and service fees for launching
- Sites are very crammed.
- lack of nature

Camp here every year and after reading the two negative comments submitted by the previous writers I am appalled. This campground is run by FOUR people, yes the entire operation - they are busy all the time, and they do their very best to keep everyone happy. If you cant read the signage posted about picnicking perhaps just drive on. The owners have this rule in place so they can meet and recognize each person on their property - which keeps us all safe.

Positives: Scenery, fishing, food and staff are all amazing. Staff borrowed me an electrical cord, helped me fix a leak in my hose, and even helped repair my canopy after the wind storm.

Negatives: the odd rude camper who posts negative feedback on websites because they got caught doing something they were not supposed to be doing.

We were traveling home from a family reunion in Manitoba on our way home to Alberta. Stopped in Roblin after a few hours of driving and grabbed hamburgers for everyone (7 adults, 7 kids). We were told to stop at Ricker's by a family member who pays yearly fees to the campground as well as the rest of his snowmobile club. On arrival we parked our 3 units in the gravel parking lot and proceeded to use a picnic table in the parking lot. A young man in a gator pulled up and was rude from the start. He said that we had to pay the day rate of $5.00 per RV. My father in law told him we would only be 15-20 minutes, in which the man replied "exactly". My father in law tried to pay with a $20 dollar bill and the young man had no change, so another of our group gave 3 $5 dollar bills...we were given no receipt. My husband's 70 year old godmother was helping the kids with their lunch and said "I thought we were in friendly Manitoba. That was all she said, in which the man replied "you know what, here, take your money back and get off my property and you can thank the old granny with the big mouth.". One of our group said "just take the money and go, we will be on our way shortly. We just need to let the kids eat. My father in law has stopped there almost every year and was always treated courteously by the previous owners ( the new owners parents) and wasn't charged to stop and stretch his legs, etc. A good business person would consider a passerby stopping in as potential customers. My husband and I are always looking for nice new places to stay...this campground won't be one of them. There is no signs on the highway showing any rates. There is a sign once you are already at the parking lot showing rates for camping and a day rate. It does not say no picnicking. The actual campground and picnic area is farther down the road. There is a nice RV campground on the Saskatchewan side that we may stay at in the future as the The Lake of the Prairies is very beautiful.

Positives: Nice scenery.

Negatives: Can't stop in shortly to enjoy the view without paying a day rate, even if you are only in the parking lot.

We stayed at Rickers for 6 days. The owners are terrific people. They run a top shelf business and go out of their way to help you settle in. We needed a cord and they helped us get hooked up to power. The fishing was excellent, the parade was alot of fun and the fireworks and entertainment was also a nice way to spend Canada Day. Not to mention the beautiful scenery.

Positives: Clean bathrooms and showers. The store has a good variety and the prices are reasonable

I concur with the other writer regarding their negative experience with the staff at Ricker's. I believe that the young man they refer to is the son of the owners and is the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. He approached me on one occasion when I was visiting Ricker's with a similar request for a day use fee in a very intimidating and rude manner. I am friends with a few seasonal campers, and all have had (at least) one negative experience with this individual. He is truly in the wrong line of work. I also agree with the writer regarding the former owners of Rickers- they were absolutely great people. The current owners appear to be reaping the benefits of decades of hard work and courteous and appreciative service by the Rickers, all despite the disgusting behavior of their family member/ employee.

Positives: Beautiful area, great fishing, large campground.

Negatives: The staff- in particular the son of the owner and his intimidating, rude behavior.

This is a very nice camp ground. We got a spot on the waters edge it was very nice. There were a few passerby but very quite . We have a fairly large 5th wheel and when we called for reservations they were courteous and accommodated us to make sure we got a site that was large enough . The boat launch was great and we were able to tie our boat to a tree close to the camper. THERE WERE NO BUGS Only disappointing part that with the high lake level the fishing wasn't good at the time we were there
