Two couples recently spent a week at the Loon Lodge. We have all been to the lake many times, but never to the lodge. We will never be back. The place was dirty (cobwebs everywhere), and the furniture was in very bad shape - two of the main chairs had little padding and one sat so low it was hard to get on/off. Two of the four chairs at the small table were falling apart - one was covered with duct tape to hold it together; the other needed duct tape!

We knew it was going to be a small place - but we had no idea any place could be as small as it was. The main area was just 12x12. With the furniture, there was no room for us to move around at all.

We had been told that there were 2 bedrooms - but we were NOT told that one bedroom was off the other bedroom! YES - we had to walk through one bedroom to get to the main area and the bathroom. VERY uncomfortable situation.

One bedroom (the one you had to travel through) was so small it only had 2 twin beds and a very tiny table between them. No place to put your clothes at all. The other bedroom had too much furniture! You couldn’t walk for all the beds! There were 2 twin beds and a bunk bed set (double bottom; twin top) and one small dresser. Our friends in the small bedroom had to come into our room to use the dresser to put their clothes (you couldn’t even just live out of your suitcase in that small room as there wasn’t room for a suitcase!)

It would have been more tolerable if we could at least enjoy views of the beautiful lake, but there was no view from any of the windows, other than the bathroom. Our place basically looked out onto the roof of the snack shack in the front, and into the boathouse in the back.

The website advertised a screened-in porch and there was one, but there was no furniture in it. Basically it was where the garbage cans and coolers were stored. The advertised back deck also had no furniture - only a built in bench. It was certainly not conducive to grabbing a good book and going outside to read.

The door from the back deck came into the back bedroom (the one with all the beds). The door wouldn’t even close tightly, let alone lock. The lock on the front screen door was missing as well.

We were told that the lodge provided the bed linens and bath towels. They did but the sheets were clearly old and the towels even older. We had to ask for hand towels and we were told that they don’t usually provide hand towels or wash cloths. That was weird. We did get one kitchen towel that we were supposed to use for the week.

Most of the dishes in the kitchen didn’t match, and many of the pots and pans were put away dirty. The can opener didn’t work at all, and some very logical kitchen tools were not included in the drawers. We had to improvise a lot in cooking our meals.

We brought up food to cook some of our meals. Between the left overs we had from our food, and the left overs we had from the meal plan food (we did some of both), we used the refrigerator a lot. That was all good until the last night when the refrigerator malfunctioned and all the food froze solid. So much for taking anything home. Luckily it didn’t impact our stay, but we did have to throw out a lot of food (and therefore good money).

Positives: There were a few pros: they did have pretty good wifi. The location is great if you want to be in the hub of the lake. And if you order the meal plan the food was very good. BUT it was way too much. They should charge less and give you less food. You could easily order the meal plan for every other day and just eat left overs on the in-between days.

Negatives: Not clean at all; furniture in horrible shape; kitchen items didn't work; linens old and limited; no view; horrible layout that wasn't disclosed.
