Was pleasantly surprised! The hotel surpassed my expectations for a 3 star rating, and the location couldn't have been better!

Positives: The location was great, and the staff friendly and helpful.

Negatives: $23 a day parking, but that's not unusual.

This hotel was very clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Nice restaurant on premises. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Positives: The staff, the decor, location, and most everything.

Negatives: Unfortunately I'm still a smoker and having to go outside to smoke in that cold Canadian winter wasn't fun. Also they do not have free in room internet.

This hotel is one of the most comfortable atmospheres I have ever experienced when traveling, and I will recommend it as well as Priceline on my blog. Thank you.

I like to think of the Lord Elgin as a home away from home. it is close to the downtown, excellent staff. A pleasure once again to be there.

Positives: I

Negatives: The swimming pool was under renovation.

Like many old hotels, the Lord Elgin was in a renovation cycle. We could not use the pool. The exercise facility was tiny but very clean. This was a great getaway for a weekend hotel. The room was quiet. We were comfortable.

Positives: The location was amazing and the buffet breakfast was exceptional.

Negatives: The rooms did not have much natural light, we paid for an upgrade to get more light.

I highly recommend this hotel, the location is ideal, the proximity to restaurants. The building itself is a reflection of the architecture of Ottawa which adds so much to its appeal. The customer service was fantastic, we were given side by side rooms with friends and were able to check in much earlier than usual check in time.

Positives: The service was excellent, the pool was perfect for kids and adults alike.

Negatives: Only thing I can think of is the acoustics in the pool area, other than that it was great!

The Lord Elgin is centrally located within walking distance of all the must see in Ottawa,---Parliament Hill, Sparks Street Mall, and the Arts Centre. The staff is excellent, friendly, courteous and caring. The building has that historic elegance that is one of the most attractive characteristics of Ottawa and the rooms are beautifully appointed.

Positives: The prime location and the historic elegance of the hotel itself.

Negatives: Charge for internet service.

I was delighted to see the Lord Elgin, because despite it being a 3 star, I heard that this hotel is the third-best in Ottawa, behind only Chateau Laurier and the Westin. Upon arrival, I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating of our late night arrival. We were checked in quickly and were pleased with our clean, comfortable room. The furniture and finishing are top-rate and the room came with thoughtful touches such as a full-size umbrella, slippers and water bottles -- features that some 5-star hotels do not have. They're really going for the Grand Railway Hotel feel. My favorite thing about the room was the full-sized, non-glazed window in the bathroom! Our room, due to the hotel's age, was smaller in comparison to newer, Suburban hotels. However, this was not an issue because it was so comfortable.

Positives: Lovely, historic hotel with comfortable rooms, a great price, and Grand Hotel appeal!

Negatives: While the rooms are very comfortable, they are smaller due to the hotel's 1940's-era layout.

The hotel was amazing I would recommend to anyone. Great for travelers who have never had a true Canadian experience. All the attractions are right out your front door. You're welcomed to a parade right in front of the hotel every morning for the changing of the guards. Loved it and would go again in a heart beat!

Positives: Perfect location to all attractions, historic hotel and worth the stay!

Negatives: The restaurant attached was way over priced for what it was. Recommend the Star bucks at the other end.

This was my first experience and I was very pleasantly surprised. I have stayed there before and really liked the hotel. The issue I had with housekeeping I consider more amusing than aggravating. I just hope my wife understands (she was not with me at the time).

Positives: The location, price and facilities including the room.

Negatives: Finding someone else's clothing under the bed. This included a lovely dress and a pair of shoes. Not my style.

I don't agree with rating of 3 star for this hotel. First of all rooms are very small and so is the Bathroom. They don't have minibar inside the room. Also they charge for internet (quite weird). Contrary staff was very good and hotel main lobby was pretty attractive. Location wise hotel is very convenient.

Positives: Location, ambience and staff courtesy.

Negatives: Rooms are very small. Views are blocked with other buildings.

Excellent choice hotel in the heart of downtown Ottawa that is next door to the business district and close to the market nightlife. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Positives: Excellent location, clean, picturesque.

Negatives: Pool and pool area - did not seem very clean.

The room was ok a little 'dated' but clean. Beds were comfortable but the noise throughout the night was brutal. Hopefully just a single incident but 'the walls were thin' with allot of late night activity. No wireless internet. Pay for internet.

Positives: Location.

Negatives: Noise.

Though the hotel was excellent in many respects, its policy of charging extra for little advantages such as internet access, mineral water, etc. makes the hotel appear cheap and makes guests feel they might be charged for all kinds of other things not necessarily mentioned. It would seem in the hotel's interest to include all such charges in the initial room rental rather than leave them as (potentially exorbitant) options: e.g. $4.00 for a small bottle of mineral water, $9.95/day (+tax) for internet access.

Positives: Clean and efficient service.

Negatives: Hotel should not charge separately for extras such as mineral water, internet access, etc. These should be included in the price.
