Things to see and do
Arlene Collins Art Gallery
Located at 10182 Highway 209, Diligent River. Growing up in the country, Arlene’s love for art began at a young age, sketching wildlife scenes and admiring the beauty of landscapes. She was born near Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, and began painting in the early 90’s, first experimenting with acrylics, but preferring oils because of better control and a truer color.(Open by Chance or Appointment)
Historic Ottawa House by the Sea Museum
Located at Box 98. This Georgian-style dwelling overlooking island, beach and bay, was originally the focal point for world renowned shipbuilding and international trading businesses. In 1871, Sir Charles Tupper, Prime Minister and Father of Confederation, purchased and expanded the house as his summer residence for the next 18 years. After thriving for nearly a century as a country inn, Ottawa House is now a museum devoted to exhibiting and interpreting part of Tupper's life, as well as the seafaring, lumbering and social history of the Parrsboro Shore. Programming includes: Sunday concerts on the verandah; costumed teas; ongoing activities for children; plus genealogical research facilities. Operated by: Parrsboro Shore Historical Society
