Summerland is well known for its wineries and beaches, being ideally situated on Okanagan Lake between several major national population centres . Tourism is a major industry, along with agriculture and tertiary services. Agriculture focused on tree fruits until the late 20th Century, then switching focus to grape production to support the burgeoning wine industry. Summerland is home to the historic Kettle Valley Steam Railway. The service industry is growing to accommodate the high percentage of seniors/retirees living in Summerland

FC Kettle Valley Bike Rentals
Located at 101-1070 Lakeshore Drive West. Okanagan Valley Mountain Biking Trails are located all over the region. The most popular been the Kettle Valley Rail Trail systems. Starting from Funcity rentals you have easy access to three very popular trails. There is the Giant’s Head run that snakes around the East side of Okanagan Lake from Penticton to Summerland. The 32 km return ride is a great way to spend half a day. The views over looking Okanagan Lake from there are stunning. Also there is the River channel – Skaha Lake - OK Falls ride. Crossing the street from Fun city rentals you begin your journey at the top of the river channel and ride down along the west side on a paved path to Skaha Lake. Then along the East side of Skaha Lake on the old KVR. Here you will be at Lake level riding South to OK Falls. The trail is flat and in good shape. The return trip is 30KM and takes half a day. OK Falls has restaurants and food stores that you can get supplies at and a nice beach to relax and picnic on. Then there is the Chute Lake – Naramata ride. It is a long distance 42 KM ride. If you would like to to do so overnight camping this would be the trip to take. Starting from Funcity Rents you head West along Okanagan Beach up Vancouver hill and on to the KVR. From here it is fairly flat with a slight grade. At the beginning of your adventure you will be going through wine yards past winery then slowly climb in elevation you will experience great viewpoints looking North up the Valley over Okanagan Lake. The first tunnel that you will come across is called Little Tunnel. When you arrive at Chute Lake you will find a restaurant, camp ground, sleeping cabins and a boat rental. From there it is 8KM to the first set of tresseles. If you prefer to do some wilderness camping there are all kinds of places along the way that are suitable. Please remember to clean up after your self by taking out all garbage and avoid making fires. There is a fire ban in effect from June to Sept each year.
