The Victoria Playhouse ( Theatre / Other ). The Victoria Playhouse Inc., located in the beautiful village of Victoria by the Sea, Prince Edward Island, had its beginnings in the summer of 1981, when residents voted to encourage the production of live theatre in their Community Hall. It was recognized that the theatre was an important drawing card for the tiny community of 150, and a catalyst for sustainable community development. The Victoria Playhouse was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1982 and is managed by a five-member Board of Directors, an Artistic Director and a Managing Director. The company has produced twenty seasons of live theatre and performance events. On average the Playhouse presents eighty-five performances a year and during the peak season operates seven days a week. The Victoria Playhouse is housed in the historic Victoria Community Hall, located at the corner of Main and Howard Streets, the exact centre of the village. The building was constructed between 1912-1914 and is widely known for its intimate interior and excellent acoustics. The hall has a rich history and has been the focal point of community activity for the past eighty-five years. It has been used for recruiting activities during wartime, plays, concerts, turkey and bean suppers, quilting bees, fashion shows, Christmas and school concerts, Women's Institute activities and Community Council meetings. Plan to enjoy dinner before the play at one of several little resturants that are in the Village. Or better yet, make it a weekend and stay in a cosy bed and breakfast. One of the more interesting aspects of the theatre's history are the numerous sightings of the ghost of Win Bradley, the architect/carpenter who built the hall. www.victoriaplayhouse.com Link
