Positives: The view and area is awesome.
Negatives: Unbelievably disrespectful communication from 'Sandy', owner.
My husband and I live in Truro. As any Nova Scotian can attest to, we live in a spectacular province that depends a good deal on tourism for provincial income. We have a particular fondness for the Parrsboro area, and try to spend as much time as work allows there, especially in the summer.
Bay Gardens 2000/ Five Islands Ocean Resort is on a spectacular piece of coastline. It's rarely over run with people, especially during the week and we booked two nights unserviced tenting site at the end of last season for $70.00. Unfortunately, work interfered and we asked if we could change the date a few days before arrival. We were charged $7 for this service by a woman named Sandy and told tersely that we weren't getting our money back. I tried to protest that I didn't want the money back; just wanted to change the date. I was startled by her hostility. We were then given a voucher for our two nights as it was the end of the season.
At the first of last week, I called to book Thursday, July 12. The woman whom I spoke to said that was great, and she'd see us then. Approximately two minutes later, the phone rang, and 'Sandy' launched into a diatribe that our voucher had expired and we could no longer use it and 'WE WEREN'T getting our money back!' I had already determined that the campground wasn't full and we had requested an unserviced site Also, the woman I spoke to, who had confirmed our reservation moments before, was aware of the voucher. When I could got a word in edgewise, I objected that the season had just started, and I could understand if the campground had been fully booked. Besides, there was no expiry date on the voucher! She then stated that she could do me a big favour, and I could use the voucher two nights in a row. I told her I couldn't get off work two nights this week. I'd just give the other night to my parents. 'VOUCHERS AREN'T TRANSFERABLE', she snarled. I seriously began to wonder if I'd done some serious wrong to this woman in another life. She also told me that evening visitors were $7 per person. I told her that we'd use one evening and hung up the phone. I was shaking.
We didn't use our one night. No view is worth that sort of nastiness. We rented a cottage in Parrsboro instead and had a wonderful experience as we almost always do in that area.
I couldn't help but wonder if the owners of this privately owned campground knew the woman they had working for them was disrespectful, demeaning and thoroughly unpleasant; plus, in my humble opinion sabotaging what could be happy customers. I called one more time and mercifully the woman who said my voucher was fine answered. I asked for the owners name and it appears that 'Sandy' is co owner with perhaps her partner. I was dumbfounded and began to do a bit of research. Apparently many others have had negative experiences.
Please read all reviews before you choose this campground so at least you know what you're dealing with. I would really like to get my money back, but I don't see that happening. I would, however like to prevent other people having the same experience.

Positives: Bay of Fundy was amazing
Negatives: Awful, rude, uncaring staff/owners
While we were generally pleased with this tightly packed older RV 'resort' and it's view of the Bay of Fundy - we very very disappointed in the owners response to our son being bitten by another guests dog.
Our son asked to pet a leased dog and it lunged at him, bit him and drew blood. While the dog owners were very cooperative in supplying all the necessary paperwork for their dog before our trip to the hospital - the resort owners would not follow their own policies regarding pets - either issuing warnings, asking the guests to leave or even forcing the owners to keep their dog inside for the duration of their stay.
It was very disappointing to be on the receiving end of such a nonchalant attitude towards pet aggression and children - not even checking to see how badly our son was hurt or the size of the wound - so we packed up and left right away.
Thankfully our sons wound did not require stitches at the nearest hospital but precautionary antibiotics were given.
Based on this experience I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Positives: Fantastic View; neat place to watch the Fundy Tides, to bad the owner/manager (whatever she calls herself)had to spoil this, I definitely would have become a regular here. There is a provincial park (primitive) just up the road - go there!
Negatives: Owner/Manager very nasty, needs instruction in dealing with people, no people skills whatsoever!!! Park is run down, very little maintenance being done.
Comments: This was the worst experience I have ever had since I began camping many many years ago. The park is run down, I have never ran into such a rude person in all my years. Please folks take heed & read the other reviews before you decide. Before coming to the campground I had checked the reviews and I had thought to myself that no way can it be that bad, but to my chagrin I was wrong,,,,, as a matter of fact it was a whole lot worse than I could have ever imagined.

Positives: Nice view
convient camping for touring around that part of NS
Negatives: We did not feel welcomed as a young family as we felt like we had to stay in our camper and be quiet the whole time.
We did day trips in teh area and only stayed at the campground to sleep.
I was very disappointed in this campground. The website is very missleading. Campground is run down and needs improvements/upgrades. Alot of seasonal campers - retired campers.
1. We have never been "escorted" to our site and "backed in" by staff to ensure we Parked in "our space".
2. Strict campground rules: No noise, no outside appliances, children must be accompanied with 100% supervision, must stay on your lot
3. Garbage collection was a disaster area: Small dumpster ,misc. items layign everywhere, 2 small drums to collect recyables which were overflowing. This is also located directly next to the cmaping area. you could smell the garbage for 1/2 the campground
4. Lots were small
5. We were told they have clam digging gear in the office to boroow - but when we went to get it, they wanted to rent it for $10 per instrument
6. beach is not great for swimming. very muddy
7. Pool: Under construction: no water, ground dug up all around it.
8. Games Room: Boarded up, pool table so old and ragged you couldn't use it
9. Laundry: 1 Dryer working. Meet unfriendly female worker driving a golf cart who was doing her own personal laundry by the basket loads! She was complaining that somone was takign up the dryers. (that was me who was using the one working dryer). She radioed to a male worker rudely to come fix the others - this male told her to take the clothes out of the dryer and use it. I spoke up and said those are mine, and you must wait. She complained about me using the dryer and she had 5 loads of laundry to dry and needed the dryer. I politely told her to wait her turn and ignored her vulgar comments after that.
10. Playground: Old teatertodder from back in 1970's, old stainless slide.
11 Weak WIFI signal

Positives: Staff were funny upbeat people and very knowledgable about the area!
Negatives: Other than people who took it upon themselves to be unbelieveably loud and obnixous... NOTHING :)
Loved this park...clean facilities, friendly staff and amazing views. Yeah, the pool was being repaired but it was no big deal cause the owners sent us to some nearby water falls so the kids could still swim. The kids had a lot of fun plus they had a LOT of fun playing in the mud and digging for clams out front of the campground!!! For me, the views and the quiet were the best. Haven't slept past 6 in the morning for a REAL long time, and our last day there, I actually slept in to 9!! Later than the kids!!!
I highly recommend this park if you want a great family campground! A couple sites down from us a party started happening... my husband tried talking to them to quiet it down but nothing happened but the owners came down and asked them nicely to be quiet but the people staying in the campsite were just out right rude to my husband and to the owners! Thankfully the owners did get them to quiet down! My children had such a exhausting day and needed to get their sleep for the next day adventures! Personally, I liked that... they said point blank on their website and the door of their office that they do not allow people to party that attracted our family to this park.
The owners seemed like nice people to me cause they went way out of their way to be helpful and friendly, I thought I would tell my story because they told me the review sites don't allow owners to write on them so they can't respond to the lies people post. So decide for yourself. Just seems to me that maybe the reason there are way more reviews for this park than for others and people either love it or they hate it IS because this park DOES back their rules. And some people love that, and some hate it. Great park for me. Not so good if you get so focused on your own good time that you forget you are not the only people in the park.

Positives: great view, had a great site.
Negatives: site services well set-up, but very tidy sites
Comments: Total missleading descriptions on web, no atv-trail access, no propane refill availble as owners left for the city, swimming pool under construction, waste disposal site pretty messy set-up, working staff very friendly and try to be helpfull, need new owners.
Wed 06 Jul 2011
Positives: The view
Negatives: Staff, facilities...and that I did not read any of the reviews at this site before we went!
Since the last review, this site must have deteriorated significantly. We stayed here during the past week. Don't believe the brochure or website. While they accurately describe the beauty of the surrounding area, important details regarding the accommodations and its amenities are grossly overstated and inadequate.
Where to start? If you want to read the whole story, see below, but the Reader's Digest version is this:
We do not recommend this campground!
1. Despite the fact that the park was mostly empty when we arrived, we were sited next to the trash dumpster and a U-haul that served as a temporary storage facility for the overflowing trash. Needless to say, the smell wafted our way at all times during the day and encouraged us to NOT sit outside at our campground. Instead, we spent a lot of time at the closeby Five Islands Provincial Park, enjoying the beauty of the area without the added smell. We would highly recommend checking out the park's campground. Fairly primitive, but pretty and spacious sites.
2. Laundry facilities were adequate assuming that you could get access to the machines, which were being used by the owner during our stay. Sadly, our sole interaction with the proprietors, aside from the check-in, was an unfortunate exchange of less than pleasantries that went something like this:
- PROPRIETOR: I'll give you your loony back, because this must be your laundry in the dryer.
- ME: No, that is not my laundry. I just put mine in the washer.
- PROPRIETOR: Well, you must have taken my laundry. And you need to know about laundry etiquette. You don't move other people's laundry from the machine.
- ME: (REPEATING) That is not my laundry....and are you accusing me of stealing your laundry?
- PROPRIETOR: (Repetition of laundry etiquette advice.)
- ME: I did not steal your laundry, and I did not move your laundry. And I do not need to hear any more information about laundry etiquette.
AT THIS POINT, I LEFT THE LAUNDRY FACILITY. When I got back to our site, I realized that the laundry the proprietor had just pulled out must have been my sister-in-law's, so I went back to the laundry facility.
- ME: Excuse me, but that laundry is my sister in law's. (Ignoring inner voice saying, "And hey, she didn't follow her own laundry etiquette.")
What happened next was really quite comical. The proprietor repeated some more info about laundry etiquette, was reminded by me again that I did not need to hear it and that she was not really being a great host (plus their showers didn't work, see #3), then she jumped on her golf cart and drove off to our site (SFX: Wicked Witch of the West music).
I go back to the camp site and arrive just in time to hear the proprietor accusing my sister-in-law of stealing her laundry and not knowing proper laundry etiquette. My family was really pretty dumbfounded.
I was frustrated that I couldn't just do my laundry in peace, my entire family had been accused of stealing the owner's laundry, and don't get me started about the laundry etiquette thing! In America, if someone is doing laundry and their stuff is done, if they are not there to move it to the dryer, the rule of thumb is that you graciously move it aside for them to pick up whenever they return. This would apply whether or not they own the establishment that offers up laundry machines as an amenity -- that the owners themselves choose to use, eliminating the availability of the services for the guests. Short story: These folks need some lessons in hosting people.
3. The circuit breaker was broken when we went to use the showers, both in the men's and women's. This was discovered prior to the Laundry Incident described in #2 and was fixed at the end of that day.
4. Recreation options are described as water slide, pool, recreation hall and basketball hoop. Here was the status for each:
- Water slide - No sign of it.
- Pool - About an inch of dirty and insect-filled water. Appeared to need some fixing.
- Recreation hall - Boarded up windows and front porch was falling down. Didn't appear safe for entry.
- Basketball hoop - No hoop, only a pole.
There was a small playground (not the advertised 2 playgrounds). Surprised to see teeter-totters from my own childhood era -- barely intact, but there nonetheless.
SUMMARY: Beautiful view, lackluster facilities, poor service.
Sat 25 Jun 2011
Positives: Great view
Direct access to shore line
clamming and fishing right from the campground
Comments: Campground has a beautiful location with a friendly staff who try to work with the customers. Owners do enforce rules including quiet hours so everyone gets to sleep at night. In other parks I have been awakened too many times by loud partying. I appreciate owners who are willing to make rules and enforce them.
Fri 24 Jun 2011
Positives: The View is unbeatable.
The staff (not the managers/owners) are very courteous and helpful.
Negatives: 1. The unslightly dump.
2. The Rec Room: broken pool table, no chairs, no television, no arcade games, just a large empty room with the windows boarded up.
3. No pool, just a mosquito haven
4. Cluttered, unprofessional office
5. Manager/Owners who want you to pay with cash so that if you are unhappy, they can tell you to leave and they do not have to give your money back.
6. WIFI is spotty at best.
We went to this park expecting a pool, a rec room with arcade games, WIFI and a general professional RV park as described on the Stay Canada website. We were sorely disappointed because what we found was very different. We found a pool that was partially full of dirty water, a rec room that was shut to the public, the men's restroom closed for renovation and spotty WIFI. The pool, rec room and arcade have all been removed from the description now, but when we visited those items were used as selling points.
The Happy Campers & Family review certainly sounds like it was written by the manager/owner or at their request. If you read the other reviews of the park, you will notice that the complaints are not for enforcement of the rules but for the rude actions of the manager/owners and poor facilities.

Positives: View is gorgeous.
Jim was very helpful.
Negatives: See General Experience
The view is gorgeous. Not the people greeting you though. My husband was in the office booking a site and I was having a really bad day, due to something I ate, so I was in the camper feeling ill. There was a knock on the door. I thought it was hubby so I told him to wait, that I was almost done. Then the pounding got harder and louder. So finally I managed to open the door and standing there is this woman with a very angry look on her face. I asked what the problem was, and here are her words: "This is private property and I must ask you to leave immediately". I told her my husband was in the office booking a site. Her reply was: "There's no one in the office, you must leave now". Okay, I'm weak from being ill and I have this to deal with. So, where the hell is my husband then??? Oh, looky here, he's in the office. She apologized but needless to say apology was not acceptable at this point. Had I felt better I would have told my husband to get our money back and leave. We did see a provincial park on our way to this campground, but I told my husband to drive the extra mile, that this place looked really nice. Boy am I sorry I did that. We should have gone back.
Needless to say, we're NEVER, EVER going back. We'll stay at the provincial park if we're ever in that area again. Oh, forgot to mention, this really ruined the last leg of our trip.
Tue 21 Jun 2011
Negatives: Seems the owners are writting rave reviews about themselves.
Hospitality is not on their list.
Don't go there. You'll feel uneasy...

Positives: View and clam digging
Negatives: See over view for comments
Comments: Omg!!! I will make this short and sweet because if i go on and on !! Ive been coming at this park with my husband and one child for the past 3years , you can have one bad day but they owner has bad days all year round as i can see with the respect among there own clients that make them live ,how can someone be so RUDE and INSULTING and JUST LOOKING to CAUSE trouble with camping clients. I just dont understand ,yes they have a big sign in the front if your here to party keep on driving !!!! I think you should change it to SORRY WE DONT NEED YOUR BUISNESS people would just go somewhere else because ,once they have a stay at your park they dont want to go back especilly when you do regular camping stuff , camp fire , just having a small talk and enjoying the fire and at 11:08 the owner SANDY very unrespectfull and sarcastic comes and tell you to shut up or wisper or else i will put your fire out and you will find yourself walking to your trailer ,,,,,we are people from 35 to 60'years old adults with kids sleeping in the trailer beside the fire ...... No complaints just very control freeks owner that want there money for over night campers and wants every one in there trailer at 11:00 ....i just cant say more ....but they have the buisness for one reason the view and clam digging and trust me people will learn fast to find other view and clam digging .thanks and hope you learn from these comments ,because on there own web site all theynhave are more than good comment and on any other site or feed back they have negative feed back ,something is not right here ,....

Positives: The location and view
Negatives: Guests are exposed to staff members disagreeing between themselves. The owners seem to be inconsiderate of the moneys spent by clients and a minimal value expected. There is certainly a lack of social graces required when dealing with the public. It appears that planning and effecting repairs is poorly arranged as none of the verbal expectations we were advised of in 2010 have materialized in 2011, so far.
Comments: Visited with friends - advertised pool was not open, not even cleaned - washrooms under repair - only one open for both genders (experienced the same in 2010) - garbage dump at the entrance of site, very unsightly - recreation hall advertised, not open (experienced same in 2010) staff member by the name of Sandy rudely slammed the door of my R.V. unit in front of guests due to temper outburst with her husband who was on a social visit
Fri 01 Oct 2010
Positives: Nice view, but nature made that, and it is available at many other campgrounds in the area.
No partying, and quiet, but you could hear the tension in the air from the other campers.
I spoke with a seasonal camper and when asked about the place, he said "good fishing, they are pretty strict though... but the fishing is good"
Negatives: Staff were absolutely rude and gruff.
First, we arrived after dark, after we checked in we were told to follow her to the site since it is near a cliff (15 feet or so). We proceeded through the gate and followed a vehicle down towards the site, it turned off and we went to the site and proceeded to back in, at which point the owner showed up (apparently the first vehicle was not her we realized later) and told us off for not waiting and went on about how dangerous it was. Why put us there then with 2 small kids???
After our explanation to her the next day, there was no sort of apology or anything.
Here is a good example of the mentality there... we bought firewood from them tax free for $7, but when I gave them 4 toonies ($8) they walked off with the change.
The other big issue was at checkout - 11 am. We were running late, and since it was Sunday and there was an huge abundance of available sites, we asked to stay a bit late, 12 - 12:30 and had a response of "ohh yah, absolutely, no problem at all" in a soft and calm voice. At about 12:25 we were starting to clean up our lunch and helping out the travel writers from the next site and in came the wicked host of the west on her golf cart with her most sour face on. "Checkout is at 11, you told me 12, it's wayyy past 12, you need to be out now or I'll have to charge you for a 1/2 day." our response " Ok, we'll get moving and pack up" her response (shout) back "you need to move, now!!". In all my years, I have never been treated this way, other than by airport security on a bay day.
We were amazed, and so were the German couple talking with us, they didn't even want to finish the fresh fried clams we made for them. I am sure there will be a nice piece in the article about that.
They need to learn that they are in the customer service industry, you need to treat the bad people very firmly, and treeat the nice people with respect. It would have went a long way for her to say, "Hi guys, it is getting late in the day, if you want to stay the day, you can buy a 1/2 day pass".
The owner is absolutely, a nut job. Remember the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, she is the campground host version.
I promise you that no one I know will ever stay there and hope to spread the word of our unbelievable trip.
As a group - 2 married couples with a 3 year old each, we had a lot of fun and enjoyed our weekend, but not because of the campground.
We went fishing and clam digging and rode out the remnants of a hurricane. We even helped a traveling German couple with some photos for their travel magazine article.
Let me first say, we visited on a very slow weekend, only a few seasonals and a few drive ups. Also, we are a very easy going pair of couples that are camping for our kids.
Sun 19 Sep 2010
Positives: clean washrooms and laundry room
ease in parking a large rig
most sites with a view of the water
staffs knowledge of the area
Negatives: truly can't think of any.
wonderful time here. It IS a piece
of paradise. Tides are amazing,
the view from our rv heavenly, and
walking the beach is always calming .
Enjoying all this and having a clean, well
managed resort made for an experience I would
recommend to everyone.
Sun 19 Sep 2010
Positives: Serene and quiet
on the water of the Bay of Fundy
Strict noise and pet rules
Showers,Laundry and store on site
fishing and clamming at the park
wide and level RV sites
Swimming pool and playground
Close to towns and restaurants
Negatives: The only negative was an incident where our neighbor insisted that their dog didn't need a leash but the owners gave them good reasons why they should put a leash on and they did..
Comments: A beautiful, peaceful very well kept RV park on the Bay of Fundy. An Ideal place for relaxation and beauty. As a professional photographer I have accumulated some astounding photographs of sunsets and rises on the Bay of Fundy. After 8 years of full time RVing this is one of our favorites and would recommend 5 Islands RV resort to everyone except party people.
Fri 25 Jun 2010
Positives: the view was spectacular.
the personal where friendly
Negatives: the sites are a bit small
we did visit for 4 days. it was quiet and peaceful.
found staff courteous - sites clean and flat - great place to just sit back and enjoy the Fundy tides -
Fri 25 Jun 2010
Positives: Clean, well maintained. friendly staff, full service sites
Negatives: Garbage area is an eyesore. Recreation hall closed for the season.
Comments: What a beautiful spot! This is our first visit to the Maritimes and we could not ask for a more beautiful, scenic campground. All sites have a view of the water and we lucked out with great weather. Prices reasonable for the area and we will definitely come back!
Sat 22 May 2010
Comments: What an amazing park...the view will take your breath away! Stayed right by the ocean and watched the tides!! One of the campers that is a regular took us out and showed us how to clam and the kids had fun with the games and activities run by the park. Was a great weekend. Loved this place!
Mon 10 May 2010
Positives: New clean washrooms and showers. Brand new level sites with 30 and 50 amp service. Renovated recreation hall for group events. Crystal clean pool. An incredible view that changes with each tide change.
Comments: My husband and I stayed for the entire season from early May until late August. The location is spectacular. The campground is in a transition phase, and the new owners Sandy and Tim are investing a great deal of time and money into making this a first rate destination in Nova Scotia. We saw the ammenities improve weekly with construction of new wahsrooms and showers, upgraded electrical services, and the addition of new 30 and 50 amp pull thru sites - each with a spectacular view of the ocean. We even had an opportunity to discuss their exciting plans for future expansion. I forsee a time in the near future when reservations will be difficult to get as the demand for this unique location grows.
Fri 21 Aug 2009
We couldn't wait to leave this campground. We found the one lonely staff member to be rude and condensending and he made us feel quite uncomfortable. Although the ad said it had a pool table and arcade games, we found the recreation hall boarded up. There was nothing there. The ad also said there were organized activities during the weekend, we didn't see any activities and were not advised of any. We could not access the wireless at our campsite, and were told that we would have to come closer. There was no seating area provided where one could use the wireless system, other than perhaps sitting on the ground outside in the parking lot, if indeed it did work there, we didn't bother trying. The ad states very spacious lots, and there were some reasonably sized lots, however we found the shore sites very narrow and cramped. The pool was nice and clean. The area and the scenery were wonderful, but we would never stay at this place again. We plan to go back to the area soon, but never to this campground.
Sun 12 Jul 2009
Comments: Staff were out right RUDE! No activities to participate in. The pay showers were filthy! The shower curtain was full of mold/slime going half way up. The view is spectacular, it is unfornuate that these people own this campground!
Sun 03 Aug 2008
Negatives: Well,im surprised they are still even open..the owners were the rudest people i ever met,not a clue as to how to run a business..no pool all weekend,,wasnt ready, cmon,,its july..best part was fishing and beer all weekend..10 :00 pm and ur told to turn the "radio" down, thats inside ur camper, and ur only neighbors are gone for the night..you would have to be right outside the camper to hear it..Creepy..learn from ur mistakes and that place was a big one..never again...
Comments: Fishing was great, camping neighbors were nice
