Fantastic. We had a wonderful time! We will return again next year.
Positives: An excellent place for a family vacation. The cottage is clean, contains everything needed, has air conditioning, and is very comfortable. The little patio at the back is enclosed and private. Jerry and Debbie were very helpful and pleasant. The location is perfect - very quiet and close to the lake and all attractions.
Before posting my experience, I read the other reviews. I am curious to know why after check-out time some patrons felt they could stay on site and have a BBQ in the backyard? Incredible.
We have stayed a few times in the Inn and also rented the cottage. Our son held his wedding in the backyard there in 2003. So, we have known Wilma and John, and Jerry and Debbie. We have been vacationing in Port Elgin since 1979 and been to other spots. All experiences at The Windspire Inn have been top notch. Those expecting to stay in a very old and quaint Inn but have amenities of the Trump Tower should look elsewhere.
We'll be back next year Jerry and Debbie!!!
Just spent a great weekend here and are already of thinking of booking again, We had a great time and would recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a quaint little place for a romantic get away!!!
Positives: Nice quiet room with a clean and large bathroom. Amazing Inn owners who were friendly during breakfast and left us alone during the day.
We very much enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning to this beautiful setting.
Positives: Very hospitable host and hostess
Comfortably furnished common areas that are inviting and homelike
Private room was clean and restful
The place smells bad
We spent a relaxing week prior to our son's wedding. By the time that the week was finished, members of our family had booked 7 of the rooms at the Inn. Every one agreed that their experience was positive and that they would recommend the Inn.
Positives: Location near the beach and away from traffic.
Breakfast from 08:30-09:30.very tasty!
Friendly and welcoming hosts.
Something happened and owner can say to me "I don't care your baby."
Because baby(10 months) was washing with his mom and their old fashion pvc covered flooring couldn't stop the little water leak. I believe you can't say this sentence to your guest if this guest is your customer in your hotel NO WAY !!
Although our stay was short, I was thorougly impressed ad delighted by the Windspire Inn. This was our first visit to the property and I am sure that we will return again in the future, particularly in the summer months given that the property is located so close to the water in this lovely town. The rooms were quiet and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful (although not overly so, which was nice from our perspective). I would describe the overall experience as the perfect romantic getaway from the city.
Positives: Very clean rooms; quiet ambiance
Negatives: I can't think of any negatives - it was a very pleasant overall experience
My stay at the Inn was wonderful. Thursday night I stayed up very late by the fire working on genealogy. It was quite a cozy setting. I felt very welcome in this historic Inn. Friday night, a group of friends met in the dining room reviewing genealogy. Everyone enjoyed the comforts of the Inn. Before we arrived that evening, the owners had started to put up the Christmas decorations. We were impressed by the way the Inn was decorated for Christmas; the Christmas tree was beautiful. Our breakfasts were tasty and the room was clean. The owners served us our meals each day with a cheerful smile. I enjoyed my stay and hope to come back someday.
Positives: Great food
Negatives: No negatives
We were unsure of what to expect when we drove to this town. However, from the minute we got there we knew we had picked the right B&B. The property is a beautiful country inn that is a few minutes walk from the water.
The owners were very welcoming. They were very helpful but gave us enough space to enjoy our time. The breakfast was very nice, but you have to be up because it is served between 8:30 and 9:30am.
Positives: 1. Clean and cozy
2. Charming country inn
3. Friendly staff
Negatives: The room was cold initially but became warm once we figured out how to use the heating.
Great place to stay!!!
Positives: Clean rooms and friendly owners!!
Negatives: too much snow in Port Elgin
We stayed at the Windspire Inn this past weekend and enjoyed our stay. We have been going to the Windspire for 5 years now and have loved it so much that we don't stay anywhere else. The new owners have brought in a "two night" rule which confounded us but we had been prepared to stay the weekend regardless. And, they have incorporated more "formal" furniture into the sitting room but, regardless, it is still a comfortable and relaxing place.
I just got back from the Windspire Inn and I need to say I am very dissappointed with this place! Taken over from Deb & Jerry Donkersgoed (new owners) has ruined this place. It went from a clean and cheerful place to full of ear wigs, dirty, uncivil and crude people. Jerry was polite and helpful but Deb was unwelcoming and unmannerly. They didnt even know how many rooms we had and were unsure of what they were doing??? The place has taken a fall as I visited last year and enjoyed it, when the previous owners were there, hence the reason why I returned, and now I would not recommend it! I am a person who believes strongly in customer service and Deb showed none!
I was there also that weekend with my husband and my daughter and felt some what the same. I will not go back! We left the Inn alot of the times as I felt maybe my daughter was a nuisance to them.
NEVER AGAIN!! We went there for a family vacation and it ruined the entire weekend, very dirty and smelling as soon as you walk in, cockroaches and earwigs in the rooms. You have to stay queit after 9PM!!!!!!! they have a backyard to sit in and bbq lunch and dinner which was nice but dirty, not to mention the wife (owner) was EXTREMELY RUDE from the first second we walked in until the end especially after we checked out and wanted to bbq one last time before hitting the road - she told us to go to a park as we were not welcome to use the backyard to eat after spending two nights with 3 families there!!! DISCUSTING AND RUDE! Never reccommend to anyone and will never return!
