It was a very nice hotel and the staff was very polite and pleasant. I was very disappointed in the view from my room.
Positives: What I liked best about the hotel was it's downtown location.
Negatives: I did not like the view of a roof top and air conditioning units.

Very nice facilities. Very inconvenient for parking, as a 20$ fee was charged per night. The restaurant was very over priced and we were recommended by the staff to find breakfast elsewhere as it wasn't worth the money. Our room was very nice, but very tiny, and we were very disappointed in the little double bed we had, as this was a special anniversary getaway for us. We wanted to walk out and stay elsewhere, when we stepped into our room.
Positives: It was beautiful and tasteful.
Negatives: The room size was horrible for 2 adults to stay in.

Overall, the stay was good, but not great. I was not impressed with the staff serving breakfast. We were on a tour part of the time. The breakfast service in the reserved dining room for us was much better.
Positives: First impression and lobby are clean and impressive.
Negatives: Staff at the breakfast were not friendly or attentive.

I only agreed for one-night CAD20.00 self parking fee, but the hotel charges CAD40.59 more.
Positives: Convenient location.
Negatives: Self parking one day costs CAD40.59.

This hotel is a catch 22. Depending when you check in is the type of room you will get. Some rooms are average. Typical 2 star hotel rooms and some are in the 1 star categories. This hotel also caters to youth groups, and almost every day of the week, there are busses full of children and depending on the time of the year, there may be 3-4 floors of nothing but children, and then it's your luck if you get any hot water.
Positives: Central location, close to everything downtown.
Negatives: Runs as a youth hostel, any day of the week there are floors full of children.

We arrived at the Lord Nelson to find that after making our reservation and confirming it again the day before we were to arrive that they had no reservation for us. We had booked a suite and a double room as it was a "sister-in-laws" weekend away and there were 10 of us in total. When we called to confirm we were told that check in time was 3:00 pm and when we arrived at the hotel at 2:00pm hoping that our room might be ready, we were told that they only hold the rooms until 1:00 pm? They offered us two double rooms, which would not work for us as we had 10 people. We asked to see the manager and were made to wait at the front desk for 15 minutes while they tried to sort this out. The manager did not come to speak to us that we found extremely rude. After making, we wait all this time the desk clerk walked back out and announced that everything was okay. When we asked her as to why we were told we did not have the rooms we booked, she replied ¿a computer glitch". That was all the reason we were given and the manager never did come and speak to us and apologize for the mix-up. It left a very poor impression with us.
Positives: Great location and elegant place to stay.
Negatives: Lost our reservation and manager would not come speak with us about it.
