Positives: Very helpful and friendly owner who recommended the absolute BEST CANOE TRIP EVER!!!! If you enjoy canoeing on rivers you need to go to TALON LAKE CAMPGROUND, talk to Dave(the boss man) about doing a day trip down the Mattawa River. Spectacular scenery, lots of wildlife and an overall sublime aura will have you believing that around each bend a party of fur traders or Algonquin are setting up camp. GO TO TALK TO DAVE AND DO THIS CANOE TRIP... NOW!
Negatives: Bugs like to bite
Comments: Camping was fine but the real beauty of this area lies within the walls of the Mattawa River Gorge leading up to Samuel De Champlain Provincial Park.

Comments: The cottages need new beds and some updates but otherwise the camp is in good shape. An above ground pool is available for use of the campers/cottagers and a sandbox for the kids. Volleyball and horseshoe's etc are also free to use. There are clean pull through sites overlooking the lake with full services and also some unservices sites out back for the small trailers and tent. The sites out back are mostly waterfront on sharps creek whick is large enough to take your boat and park it right at your campsite (very senic natural canal brings you here). Also on sharps creek there is excellent fishing and swimming in the rapids (also extremely scenic)... just watch out for the snapping turtle!!! There are seasonal campsites and all the seasonal campers are friendly and curteous. Thay have a small store where you can get most things and you can also buy gas for your boat. (If your boat breaks the owner of the camp is also a licensed mechanic so you can get back on the water again.) There is pleanty of good docking for your boat. The lake has a excellent beach (grasswells point) where you can get to by boat in about 7 mins. and has shallow entry in areas for small children (get there early because it is visited often by many). Fishing is superb, with stories of a 7' muskie in the lake. Watersports are also great on this large northern lake. At the eastern side of the lake you can go cliff jumping on cliffs from 5' to 90' high and visit the chutes after the talon lake dam which is a great swimming area when water is slow flowing but dangerous at other times. The lake is located on the Mattawa river system and canoeing is at its finest! (you can rent canoes from the camp). All in all this is an excellent choice for family fun or a fishing adventure. As long as you dont expect luxury accomidations you will have alot of enjoyment here. I highly reccomend Talon Lake Camp and Marina.
