I can not say enough good things about the employees at KOA Cardinal. They were polite, helpful, and attentive. However, the owners are another story all together.
My wife went to the site a few weeks before our first trip to scout a site we would like. She booked the same site for two separate weeks in July. Our first week was great. But when we returned for the second stay, we were assigned a site that we specifically told them we didn't want at the time of booking weeks before our first stay.
Two staff members tried to solve the problem and they came up with a workable solution that would have us move from a site we preferred to the owner's private site when the site we wanted became unavailable on the week end. This was arranged by a phone call to someone who gave them permission for this solution.
Two days before the move a very apologetic staff member came to our site to inform us that one of the owner's friends would be using the site promised to us, and we were to be relocated to the site we had rejected at the time of booking several weeks before.
So, we were promised a site we wanted, arrived to find out they had messed up our booking, were promised another suitable site, only to have that site reassigned to one of the owner's friends, and then shuffled off to a sub standard site.
When I spoke with the owner he was quite confrontational, rude, and insinuated that my wife was lying. In fact, it was the owner's spouse who had made the initial mistake. I can certainly see why other folks would feel threatened by his demeanor. I was surprised how quickly he was to anger and point the finger at us. I can well imagine that others would be afraid of his body language and accusatory tone.
Our vacation was cut short by four days. You simply don't promise a customer something to remedy a problem your business created only to take it away a few days later.
We won't be back, and that's a shame. The pool was great, my kids loved the go carts, and the jumping pillow was a hit. I will be writing KOA corporate to complain.
Positives: Jumping pillow, pool, go carts, splash pad, trees, clean washrooms.
Negatives: Broken promises, failure to provide the sites we were promised, rude, quick to anger, owner.
