Tunkwa Lake Resort
Tunkwa Lake Resort is a campground located in Logan Lake.
Welcome to Tunkwa Lake Resort, one of British Columbia's premier fly fishing destinations. Picturesque Tunkwa Lake is world famous for it's extra large Kamloops Rainbow trout. And, because of the abundance and size of these trout, Tunkwa Lake was chosen as a venue lake for the 1993 World Fly Fishing Championships.
Located in the sunny southern interior Thompson Nicola region of British Columbia, a short drive from Kamloops and Logan Lake, and only a 3½-hour drive from Vancouver, BC, Tunkwa Lake Resort is both a fishing resort and an affordable destination for family vacations, known for its friendly service.

Positives: Absolutely helpful for everything - where to fish, what to use, knot instruction, best wildlife viewing areas.
Negatives: The only reason the location received 9 stars is due to the Mtn Pine Beetle kill.
Comments: Al and staff epitomize customer service! The 'star' rating really says it all. Had a great time.

Positives: Generally good fishing, great service and peaceful serenity.
Negatives: no cell service (this may be a positive)
Comments: I have been going to Tunkwa Lake Resort for over 10 years. I make sure that I go at least once every spring for 8 to 10 days. The last couple of years the fishing has been off due to weather conditions but I still enjoyed my time there. Al, Jody and Rich make the stay fun and they are always full of good fishing advice. They always seem to find us a place to fish in the area when Tunkwa and Leighton are off. The cabins are rustic which is just what I want. I spend alot of my time in high end hotels and like the Tunkwa Lake cabins better. If you are looking for a good fishing holiday or just want to relax there is nowhere any better.

Positives: Cabin was clean.
New cleaning supplies for use. Not like other resorts that offer a used scrubbie.
Free wood for the cabin.
Negatives: Cabin 15 advertised a queen bed when in fact it is a double.
I have been coming to this resort since 1998 and have stayed in a variety of the rustic cabins. (The new cabins look extremely comfortable but they don't appeal to us). Some visits included my wife and large breed dog, other visits just the wife and I, or by myself. I knew the previous owner Rob and I have gotten to know the new owner Al. While the resort was good under Rob's ownership, Al has brought Tunkwa Lake Resort to a higher level of comfort & enjoyment while maintaining reasonable rates.
From the cabins that I have stayed in, Al has up graded the wood burning stoves. These offer better heat retention and burn less wood. Speaking of wood, the cabins are now supplied with wood, not as before where you had to buy wood for the stove. The propane cooking stoves and mini fridges also appear to have been up graded. I have stayed in other resorts where the wood stoves couldn't even retain heat for more 2 hours without re-stoking. This in the middle of the night is a real drag.
The resort's boats and motors have all been up graded. While I fished all day from the boat on my last trip, there was never any need to bail water out. And the motor always started on the second pull at most. I have been to another where there offer old wooded boats. Tunkwa's are all new aluminum.
Al's staff;in particular Richard and Jody; are also awesome. They have always pleasant to speak to and deal with. One cold morning a few year's back, our truck wouldn't start so Jody came and re-charged the battery to the point where it would start on its own. Not just jump start the truck and send us on our way. Al is a pretty decent guy too. A couple of years ago we forgot our camera. Al not only lent us a digital camera but emailed the photos that we took.
Besides the beauty of the lake and pleasant surrounding as most lakes in the interior are, these are just a few of the things that keep us coming back to Tunkwa Lake Resort.

Positives: Good, smooth road in. Wonderful scenery.
Comments: I took my son up for a little bit of ice fishing, ice skating, and some winter fun. It was our first time to Tunkwa Lake and we both had a great time. The owners greeted us upon our arrival and were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They told us where the best places to fish were and how to ice fish. The ice rink was kept in great shape and the resort even had some skates and hockey sticks available (at no charge) if you forgot to bring your own. The cabins were cozy, clean and had everything we needed. We both look forward to going up again.

Positives: You have your choice of large multi level executive chalets or very cozy fishing cabins.Staff were all very helpful, all accomadations and facilities were kept clean .You never had to ask for firewood (delivered to your cabin every morning. The boating staff always tested each boat pkg. out right in front of the custormer then delivered the boat to you at the dock ,with the latest fishing imfo and hints .Tunkwa lake is not just for serious fishermen, well set up for families, kids, pets. The staff keeps a tite riegn on any loud music or rowdy guests, extremely pleasant and peaceful.Overall I would expect to pay much more for less, I was pleasantly suprised. On a side note I encountered mechanical problems on my vehicle and the helped save the day.
Negatives: Sorry none to mention
Comments: My girl friend and I were in need of some serious relaxation,I contacted Tunkwa lake resort and was greeted by very pleasant person, turned out was the owner Allan ,who set up our arrangements, and looked foward to meeting us.Upon our arrival,we greeted by pleasant staff and everthing they was as they said .They understated the beauty and serrenity, loons calling canada geese flying right overhead.Even though temprature was a little cool at nite, the days warmed up quick and spring flora and fauna was all around. Thanks to the truly concerned owners and the staff, We were treated our best stay ever !

As the owner of Tunkwa Lake Resort, I would love the opportunity to address the concerns raised in the last post. We have owned the resort for the past four years and have invested significant resources to upgrade much of the resort facilities including new boats and motors, a new shower house, new luxury log cabins and a program of upgrading each of the rustic cabins. I regret the poster had a poor experience and I would really like the individual to contact me at email@example.com so we can try and change your perspective. thanks, paul.

Positives: Great fishing, boats, cabins, and staff.
I am sorry to see what "ripoff" posted on both review sites. Charged for everything including pets??? We have been going to Tunkwa now for 4 years, and at least 2-3 times/yr. We have always brought a pet and have yet to be charged for it.
Tunkwa is a small family run resort that I recommend to everyone. The rustic cabins are just that, but are clean, cozy, and everything is in excellent running order. The shower house/washrooms are cleaner than any other resort I've been to.
But what sets this resort above and beyond is the owners and their crew of staff. Any issues with cabin or otherwise are dealt with immediately. Al, Paul, Richard, Joedy, to name a few are constantly working to upgrade the resort and to help guests be comfortable. In the 4 years that they have owned the resort they have made consistent improvements, and continue to do so. In 45 years of camping/resorting around BC I won't go anywhere else but Tunkwa.
