Positives: pleasant staff, helpful and friendly
Negatives: site given was not appropriate for tenting, the fireplaces are too high.
Comments: The main problem seemed to be with communication between us and them. I asked for a particular site and was told it was booked. Oh well. I then stressed that we were tenting and asked if the site was suitable and was assured that it was a great site. No level place to set the tent , no place to set up a tarp. No privacy from the next site. I must say that the staff were wonderful and pleasant. Would come again but only after viewing the actual site I would be using.

Comments: When booking a campsite for a long weekend, i asked the woman on the phone what their cancellation policy was and was informed i could cancel within 48hrs of the date the campsite was booked. When i ended up having to cancel, within the 48hrs, i was told they have a no refund policy for long weekends. Even when it was explained to them that i was told i could cancel within the 48hrs, they had a TOO BAD FOR YOU, attitude. I would not recommend camping here at all if that is the way they treat people.

Positives: all around great place
Negatives: quite bare but will be better when all the trees are planted. As for the last review you will not be missed !!!
Comments: we camp at cow lake every year and have never had any problems.Ithink the people in the last review must have been camping somewhere else or were mad at someone because nothing they said is true! this is a great campground and we will return .

Comments: Well I think to start this I will say I read the comments below & I think its BOGUS.This campground is ran horribly this summer.I have never ran into any of the problems that were said about Cow Lake in preveous years.I have always found it to have a friendly staff and great security.Well that is up until now.If you read the Rocky paper you will see that lots of stuff has been stolen there this summer so sucurity is poor.It looks like a whole family lives in that cabin with toys all over the place and kids running all over the road and toys laying around. You have to sit and wait to get booked in until someone comes from the cabin to do so .It is unbelieveable dogs walking and messing in the park where children are playing and in the sandbox .I dont ever recall that happening in previous years. The grass is not cut on a regular basis either ,it is very noisy there on the weekends after midnight.I believe the staff of Cow Lake are busybodies and are writing these remarks on here to try to make themselves look good. But I guess seeing is believing ,so dont believe everything you read and check it out for yourself.Hopefully your stay there is better than ours was this summer.I would like to know who looks after this page as I would like to express a few more happenings with them.I know we will never go back again nor will our family or friends.Fairwell to what was once a great place to camp.

Positives: bathrooms spotless. very friendly and helpfull staff. looks like a whole diffrent place with the trees removed. very good security. we were able to sit around the fire and play our guitars, laugh. security guys stopped in for a visit and instead of giving us shit he was just stopping in for a visit to see where we were from. the changes of staff and managment was years overdo! :)
Negatives: lots of trees taken out for safety reasons but when new growth come in it will be beautiful!
Comments: new staff and management. very well ran and very clean. finally someone running the place that knows how to deal with public!!! we will be back!

Positives: Staff for us were very helpful, decent boat launch.
Negatives: Clear cut trees , the 1 outhouse by the beach and cabana was in terrible shape.
Comments: My family and I stayed at Cow lake for the first time last may, and to be honest after I booked the sites I read the reviews I was a little scared with all the bad reviews. But I can honestly tell everyone that our stay was very good! On the way into the camp ground we bottomed out on the road and took out our holding tank. "Brenda" I believe her name was, gave us a rubbermaid container to place under the trailer so we could still use our toilet in trailer for mornings, in which she didn't have to do. The fishing was alright not great but just to get out was nice, showers were fantastic especially with it being cooler outside it was a great way to warm up. We have booked our site there again for this May long and can't wait to get on the road!

Positives: Dead old trees that were ready to fall down have all been removed . Making room for new growth and more group stalls.
Negatives: I personally do not care for the $5 a day dog charge & I wish they would make you pay a deposit instead & if your stall is clean when you leave your deposit is returned .
Comments: I found that the People & Staff running Cow Lake Campground NOW to be the most Helpful & Caring people that have ever ran that campground in the past 15 years .And I have spent many a summer there & have been there for the Good The Bad & The Ugly .& I would recommend Cow Lake to Everyone. There are rules at every camp ground "If you dont like rules I personally recommend Southfork or Northfork or anywhere that there is not someone left to clean up after you are gone "Pick garbage ,broken bottles etc by not just you but other people that may have left such a mess "I am a dog owner & I personally dissagree with the $5 a day charge for dogs but hey I bet you have never rented a stall there and found dog mess anywhere ,the money has to come from somewhere to clean & make sure the stalls are all in tip top shape when you come in .I myself stayed @ cow Lake last summer & had to move my camper 2times a week for the first month & atleast 6 times the next in order to stay for the summer months ya I was not impressed either but I guess if you want to camp somewhere I guess you take what you can get.But even then there was always someone @ that campground to lend a helping hand "non staff related"we had our sewer emptied for us by "Coroc Steamers" & were not even expected to pay as they were out there empting the main sewer & just offered to help people that were spending any length of time there so they wouldnt have to move their campers & do it themselfs. Now you tell me when have you ever come across that kind of hospitality at another campground ?

We just spent a week at cow lake. Although there are many nicely treed sites, we stayed in a "sunny sight" which basically meant a parking lot for units with little or no trees. The biggest problem we had was with the management's rules. Posted throughout the campground are lists upon lists of rules. The rules surrounding having a dog at your site were so intrusive, it made it very difficult. It is ridiculous that dogs couldn't be on any of the grassy areas, couldn't be off leash in your own site, couldn't swim in the lake even off the pier or at the boat launch, couldn't be left alone at the site even if tied up or in a camper unit. They even made me pay $5 extra for every night because of the dog. I was only allowed to walk him on one path through the trees. This campsite is completely unfriendly to dog owners. I will not go back because they made it so difficult to have my dog with me. One of the reasons I go camping is because it is an activity which I can easily enjoy with my dog.
If they don't want dogs at the campsite, make it a dog free campsite. They should at least post the fees and regulations on their site and warn people at the time of reserving.

definitely worth visiting or re-visiting

Although the campsite has much to offer, fishing, water skiing. play ground for kids etc. We found it to be over crowded and poorly set up.
I believe this is the result of poor management for the summer of 2007.
The managment that is there this summer has poor communication and management skills. Some staff at the campsite are very impolite and rude. We had booked our group site one year in advance, and had planned staying two days more, only to find out our sites where double booked and we had to leave.

Comments: Campground would be getting a return visit from us if it wasn't for the dick heads running the place. Stay away, it's cranky old farts, who make up arbitrary rules which change from hour to hour, that run the place.

Very nice campground! Very poorly ran!!
It is very obvious these caretakers have 2 sets of rules. One set for people they know and one set for everyone else.
The people that are running this campground are very unorganized and have absolutly no management skills. They were very, very rude to us. We followed every single rule they had.
They double booked many of the camp stalls and then told us that we had to leave because someone else had booked the stall. We had booked our stalls 6 months in advance and we were told that if we wanted to stay an extra couple of days that there would be no problem.
At the time that they asked us to move from our camp stall, there were many other vacant stalls that they could have put the people in that came after us.
We had no music playing, we cleaned up after ourselves, our dogs were kept on leashes at ALL times, we didn't run noisy generators ect. We got in trouble because our group was sitting around the camp fire laughing. We have NEVER in our lives heard that laughing in a campground was forbidden.
So as of right now at Cow Lake with the caretakers that are there, if you plan to laugh when you go camping, this is not the spot to go.
This is very unfortunate because this campground could be a very nice spot for families.
Our annual family camp trip was ruined this year from our Cow Lake experience.

Comments: The cow lake campground itself is nice. plenty of activities, a beach, ect. the reason we will NEVER be going back to this campsite is very simple; poor management. Double booked sites, impolite and unacceptable language and behavior from the managers, and constant harassment are just some of the issues we faced. I can understand if the management is trying to establish a "no noise tolerance after 11 pm" campsite. That is fine. My point is that if talking and laughing with your group is too noisy, then the managers should have a positive way to deal with it, other than swearing at and threatening their customers. A simple "please" would have been much more effective. Upon trying to calmly talk to the staff, we were quickly jumped on and rudely spoken to, with no chance for reason. Also, When a family of tenters are placed in the site beside a pre-booked group of 15 units, I question the experience of the organizers. Do not expect to enjoy this site if you want to do what I call camping; campfires, talking, guitars, having fun. ect. We were obviously not impressed with the way we were treated and thought that you should know what to expect before you head out. A very unprofessionally run campground.

Comments: I agree that the management were rude. I do appreciate it however that they keep things quiet. Singing and laughing at night really travels weather you are in a tent or a trailer. I'm sure the previous people were noisier than they felt they were. Once again, we didn't get any "trouble" however, we kept our dog tied up the entire time even though it wasn't necessary yet they still felt the need to "remind" us at least 3 times a day and not very nicely. And guess what. our site was double booked also. We ended up in the parking lot which actually turned out quite nice. There was a small grassy picnic area that we all pulled around. VERY BAD MANAGEMENT.
