Positives: Location. Still about 7/10 though.
Negatives: Most reviews.
This little gem's best left hidden. First and last time coming here. Cramped sites with no privacy, $10 for making a reservation??? A deposit or pre-payment I can understand, but paying extra is just a rip off. Brings our site fees up to $45 a night with no sewer! And if you want to dump, it's another $10!
They claim power is 15 amp at our site, but running 2 1500 watt (max.) appliances blows the breaker (that's about 3 amps). Adds up to more like 15 amps serving 4 sites...or worn out breakers.
Anyway, that's night one, we'll see how night 2 goes...

group site is roomy and private (we only book group sites)
Negatives: the one side of the river is hard to access
Riff raff always show up and expect to be treated nicely when they are the ones being rude, bye bye they good and don't let the door hit ya.
Comments: We absolutley Love the location so close to Calgary if we need to run back for some reason. We love the staff they are always nice. Love the fact that Rules are in place and strictly enforced, no riff raff is tolerated and that's just great!

NO TELUS SERVICE ONLY ROGERS. Hardley the fault of any campsite. I was invited to come down for a bbq and campfire by freinds and wanted to check out the facility because I have a 34 foot motorhome.
The road in is long gravel and in some parts steep so that might not be the best thing if there was alot of rain for getting back out. When I arrived I was told there is a 10 dollar guest fee and you need to leave before we lock the gates. I thought they were kidding so I said good one. Thats when they got not mad but hostile. They quickly changed their tune when I took off my jacket, told them an ambulance is at least a good 30 minutes away so choose your next words carefully.
After they apoligized I informed them I will be notifying the RCMP and the Crown that you are in violation of the criminal code of unlawfull imprisonment when you lock that gate at 11pm. They said the gate only appears to be locked to keep the rift raft out. That seemed reasonable so after I registered I went in.
The campsite was nice enough and the bend in the river with the high steep hill was very nice. They had two Rvs and two tents sharing the same spot and no one knew each other so that was okay because everyone got along. About 9 pm young adults came in from a day of rafting. This mix did not fit in with the families camping on this spot. My advice to all parks is to isolate the partiers from the famlies however not everyone gets that.
I would not bring a large motorhome on that road and that hill if I thought there was going to be heavy rain. Rude service staff occurrs everywhere so that I can deal with once they realize this may be their last day on earth if they dont smarten up and fast. What I didnt quite get that. Now that you have my full attention say that again. Works everytime.

Comments: the price to stay there was way to much >No generators are allowed so you are forced to take power> the washrooms were clean but the mouldy smell was bad . the good sites are taken by seasonal stays and could not find a good spot for my fire pit and when you did you were sitting on boulders and the campers that stay here are basicly the to party and jump of the cliff there and party I will not go back to this camp ground

Comments: we had a great stay. the staff were great and the area is beautiful. we will be back for years to come
Fri 15 Jul 2011
Positives: water ...
Negatives: staff and management ...
Comments: the area itself is nice ... we found the staff to be very agressive and rude ... dump station in a terrible spot ... right beside kid park ... plus the fee to dump, on top of their fairly high rates already ... high price for wood, for what you get, which isn't much ... overall not a good camping weekend ... people in the office, very confused as if they had no clue what was going on ... took way to long to register and check out ... we will not return ...

Comments: Great Campsite! Clean and a beautiful location. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time. When we arrived we were greeted with a smile and staff was really helpful with any questions we had. Clean facilities and lots of fun to be had!

Positives: location,wildlife,river and views
Negatives: the rough roads but it does make people slow down
Comments: we camped here a couple of years back and really enjoyed ourselves as well as the river. We have never had a problem and I am shocked to see some of the comments we have been coming here for the last 2 years and i don't ever recall seeing a male manager, there was a woman who was the manager and she is quite bossy and I can't say she knows how to do her job correctly.Yes the roads are rough, yes it's a gated lot but if you look closely you'll see it's dummy locked so that you can get out if there is an emergency.I have been there when the ATVs came through in the middle of the night, or when the squatters came and created a mess- hence the gate.If you want to party I suggest a different campground and that suits this family just fine. We are seasonal now and wouldn't change it for the world.

Positives: - The River
Negatives: - The staff
- The rude, aggressive management
- High cost
- Fee for dump station after you've paid the high site rate
- Location of dump station
- Total lack of privacy
- Small Sites
- The harassing warden in the golf cart
Comments: Completely horrible! Rude, aggressive management. Maximum security prison type rules. Campground in general is very run-down, very small sites, most are gravel and large rocks, no privacy at all. They definitely seem more focused on permanent residents rather than repeat local customers. The dump station is $10 + GST and is located five feet from the playground, does not smell good at all and I would not let my children play there. One person who only stayed one night was verbally attacked upon leaving, the elderly man reached in her car to snatch her car tag and demanded to know who she was, what site she was from, and where did she think she was going. Supposed management emailed us later that day to demand an apology, Would have thought 'management' would have simply came to our site to speak with us regarding this he said she said business between a paying customer and an employee if it was such an issue rather than send a rude email. Washrooms are locked at 11pm so if you are in a tent just be forewarned, it's a long time to wait until morning! Absolutely no music, no matter how quiet it is, after 11pm. And yes, they patrol regularly all day and night long via golf cart.

Positives: Location and river.
Negatives: Price and noise.
Comments: We were actually looking forward to all of the rules. We tent-it with 2 young kids and looked forward to having it quiet in the evenings. We ended up leaving at 3:00 AM Saturday morning because the group next to us were still partying it up. Walking around the site howling like animals. And the group across the path were still playing music. Didn't seem to be anyone there to enforce the quiet time. Our site looked cozy but full or holes; plenty big enough for even an adults foot to go down into. After a little fighting the next day, we were refunded SOME of our money. Was thinking it might have been shitty luck but after reading more reviews... maybe not.

Positives: Good location
Negatives: Unless you want to subject yourself to a authoritarian regime with some form of dictatorship
Don't go to Natues's Hideaway Campground outside of Calgary Alberta
This campground has massive potential but under it's current governance it will never happen.
We are seasoned and avid campers highly respectful of all and we respect rules.
The problem with this campground is that some of their staff have either a I am the BOSS complex
And what is clear, a chip on their shoulders. Rules are rules and they are their for a purpose
And should be skillfully enforced. The closest observation is that the so called managers certainly don't have this skill moreover they exercise their authority in a manner that the owners should be concerned about a serious lawsuit that would certainly exceed the somewhat overpriced campsite fee. The owners need to understand that first and foremost they are in the hospitality industry.
Very true some guests are less desirable, but most are, and they are looking for a true hospitality experience and unfortunately the head (s) of their staff don't have this gift!
Faking it does not pull the wool over any reasonable person eyes !!! Looks like the owners got the wool pulled over their eyes !!! By their own staff

Positives: Safety - Security going through the campsite at night
No Noise Policy after 11 - Great for a good night sleep
Staff - Extremely friendly
A absolutely gorgeous view
Negatives: There are no negatives to this campground.
Comments: I was just curious about reviews for Natures Hideaway so I looked it up. I am quite astonished by what I have read. My husband and I have stayed there twice now and loved it (and I mean absolutely loved it) both times we have gone. The manager and all of the staff treated us great and we are just weekend campers, not seasonal. Yes, there are rules and regulations, but we don't see them as rules and regulations. We see them as benefits to the campers themselves. No noice after 11 - I will get a good night sleep, visitors pay $5.00 to get in - campers get free showers and a very clean campsite. No viewing the campsite Friday - Sunday - I get a peaceful and relaxing weekend without the extra crowd hanging around. On the 2 times we were there, we never ran out of water. The campsite might be a couple of bucks over other campsites but they give you benefits that no other campsites do like free showers which if you were to pay for you there is that couple of bucks. We loved this campsite so much that we are considering doing seasonal next year!

Positives: Alot of the staff were amazing, checking in with us and helping if we needed it. Playground area was great for the kids but not very central..
Negatives: Manager with a chip on his shoulder, the fact the gate is locked at night, so no one in or out.. Thankfully there was no emergency this weekend as the security guard went to make his rounds i mean his visit,, who knew where he was or how long he would be gone..
Insufficient water and paying $35 a night for the use of a port a pottie after a certain time is absolutely crazy
Comments: The one and only thing i found good about this campground was the location. A location that close the river was great, however, it is definately overpriced at $35 per night, sites were a decent size, but we do have a small trailer. 98% percent of the staff were great, i would say the manager has an authority issue because he sure likes to throw it around. I understand rules are rules and we did abide by them, but to come into our site randomly and constantly remind us that if we didn't abide by them we would be asked to leave and a lifelong ban,, come on that is just ridiculous. The entire site did run out of water as well on the saturday afternoon into the late evening, so much for showers and bathroom,, which were locked at night and not open till 7 A.M. i personally don't think they are a family orientated site. If your a seasonal renter there, you are catered to, but the weekenders..thanks for you money, now hurry up and leave...I would not recommend this campground to anyone looking to relax and have a family weekend..

Positives: Close to home, friendly staff, security at night, clean washrooms.
Negatives: Portable toilets at night and a bit expensive.
Comments: This was our second time at this campground. It's close to Okotoks or Calgary if you need anything, the staff were great, and the washrooms were exceptionally clean. They've made changes to the store and are doing work on the sites. We fully intend to go back.
Fri 21 May 2010
Negatives: WAY OVER PRICED
I wish I had checked out some of the reviews before spending the May long weekend at this campground. I would have to agree the rates were WAY too high, it was $50 a night for a full service site. Plus any guests had to pay $10 each and each dog was $5 per night. A bag of wood cost $11.50 and there was more rules then I had ever seen.
On the 3rd day the entire campsite ran out of water there was no explanation or apology just a "better luck next time attitude" Even the campsite showers and bathrooms were not in service.
I would NEVER go back and would not recommend it to anyone!
Fri 21 May 2010
Positives: Location - it is so close to Calgary
Family atmosphere and rules
Negatives: we had to leave and go back to the city.
Comments: I read the previous review and could not believe it. My family loved the safety and the rules. We had a full service site and it was only 35.00 a night. We bought a bag of wood in town for 11.00 and it was smaller than the bag of wood at the campground. There was face painting for the kids free of charge and the staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience.

Positives: location and river
Negatives: stupid rules and to many seasonal campers that think they own the place.
Comments: This was a horrible campground with large falling trees and small roads and stalls with lots of potholes and mud bogging you will need a off road trailer and 4x4 to get out if it rains. 90% of campers are seasonal and very rude with a different set of rules then the weekenders. Very expensive with no money going to the up-keep of the grounds or restrooms. Staff not very friendly and to book a stall they seem to take forever to return your call. Way to many stupid rules and to much $$ $$ to every return to camp here again. The rating is a 1 because there is no zero.....
Sun 02 Aug 2009
Comments: Nice enough area by the river ... when it's sunny out, however once it rains the whole campsite turns into one giant MUD BOG! Lakes of water on the "roads". Absolutely horrible. Hardly any room to maneuver any trailer over 20'. Poorly laid out sharp turns, narrow roads full of potholes. WAY overpriced! Only 15 amp power available. We were rained out & left one day early with no offer of any refund, just a "better luck next time" ... There won't be a "next time!" MUCH nicer places to be camping in Alberta to waste time and money here. Lesson learned.
Sat 01 Aug 2009
Comments: my wife and i stayed a few nights here and it was extremly over priced........30 dollars a night in this place is robbery.....the general manager makes sure everyone knows he is the general manager by enforcing every one of the million rules that are in effect......its supposed to be a family campground but there are drunkin teenagers everywere with nothing but rude comments to make......it was very uptight and not a comfortable place to be....i will never go back.....the washroom is so small you hardly fit and im a small guy.....oh well what do you expect for 84 dollars for 2 nights camping.....what a rip off
Tue 19 May 2009
Positives: Being close to highwood river and family campground that enforces the rules.
Comments: I stayed there and enjoed it a lot. The campground is great and it was nicely laid out. We did have good weather and did not notice the water issues.
Thu 03 Jul 2008
Comments: We were very disappointed with this campground and will never return. We have done a lot of camping and this was the most expensive site we've had and probably the most disappointing. They only allow two adults per site and charge $10 for each extra person. If anyone visits there is a charge - visitors have to leave by 8 pm or pay a full days rate. The first site we were put in was so small we didn't know where to put our tent - so we paid $50 for 4 people to be on this tiny site where neighbours were breathing down our necks. Although they say they cannot guarantee a particular site, we were not given any choice of sites. Rules are posted everywhere - We really felt unwelcome. One set of washrooms were locked up overnight. They don't allow people to sleep in their vans - it might attract the wrong crowd. Well we didn't have any alcohol on our site at all. They won't have to worry about this crowd again.
