Our stay at Aspen by the Sea was a very negative experience. There are so many hidden fees and the owners are very rude and uninviting. They want your money but don't really want you there. I will never go back there and would recommend that no one else go there, unless you want to see how bad service can be. We travel around a lot and this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed.

Anyone considering staying here should be warned. The owner is a complete nutter. There are hidden costs and rules at every turn. There is nothing hospitable about the owner. She obviously hates tourists but needs the cash. Then again she problay thinks she's doing a great job. We were stressed to the max for the two nights we stayed here. We half expectd her over in the night to tell us we woudl be paying extra for having lights on after 10:00.

Although the cabins are modern and amenities are available, I felt extremely unwelcome our entire stay. There are rules posted throughout the cabins including a dollar amount you will be charged if you don't follow them (i.e. dirty dishes - $25, extra toilet paper - $1 per roll, etc, etc, etc). The beds were hard and uncomfortable, the towels were threadbare and the sheets were torn. We (my family) rented 4 cabins and when my sister rented a bb-q for $7, she charged her 4 times because the rest of us "might" use it...we never had any intention to until that forced us to.
When it was known that we would be using the washing machine/dryer (at $6 a pop), a strict set of rules was told and re-told to us before every use. We were also promised an extra night free when we booked over email. When we got there we were charged for the so called "free" night and when we called them on it and showed them THEIR email, the owners reneged. An overall very unpleasant experience, but the vacation to Newfoundland far made up for it.

We've stayed at Aspen by the Sea for two years now to celebrate Canada Day. The Cottages are wonderful, very clean, bright and everything you need is right there. Its an excellent spot for kids too. We love it and will definitely return next year.
